Why should we make the study and practice of
Ramayana the subject of our spiritual sadhana? What will be the benefits we
derive? Bhagawan lovingly reminds us today.
There was great unity and understanding not only
among the four brothers - Rama, Lakshmana, Bharatha and Shatrughna, but also
among their consorts. Every character in the Ramayana is an ideal for every
family. Is there a family today where sons and daughters-in-law live in amity?
Is there a family where brothers live in harmony without indulging in disputes?
Nowhere do we find such an ideal family today. You may have desires, but they
should be under limit. They should be based on truth and righteousness. Do not
eat whatever you get. Do not speak whatever comes to your mind. You should
speak only after proper enquiry. These are some of the lessons that the
Ramayana teaches to mankind. Remember, the story of Rama is not an ancient one.
It is eternal and ever new. It is full of auspiciousness. Give up all hatred
and all differences! May you fill your heart with the sacred ideals of the
Ramayana! May you live in peace and harmony!
- Divine Discourse, Apr 11, 2003.
When you contemplate on Rama incessantly, you
derive great joy and delight. - Baba

If God is the source for everything in the world,
is He the source of our misery too? Bhagawan clearly explains how we are bound
and how we can become free.
To say that God is the prime cause of everything is
true to a certain extent, but you are not thrust by Him into an iron cage of
destiny from which there is no escape. Do not blame fate or the stars for your
condition. He has endowed you with discrimination and detachment, and also with
a sense of awe and wonder; you have to use these for attaining Him. Though
bound, you are not entirely incapacitated. A cow that is tethered to a post by
means of a rope can walk around it and graze on all the area that the rope can
traverse; when all the grass therein has been eaten, perhaps the master might
loosen the knot and tether it to another different post! Graze freely as far as
the rope allows, but do not stray far from the post and pull at the rope, then
you will inflict pain on your neck.
- Divine Discourse, Nov 24, 1961.

Destroy your ego, you have no need to seek
liberation. You will be liberation itself. - Baba
3 Apr 2018..........................
What is the secret to conquer the ego? Bhagawan
lovingly explains to us with a wonderful example today.
The conquest of the ego is a hard task; years of
persistent effort are needed to get success in this endeavour. Think of this
example – have you tried to break the coconut as soon as it comes from the
coconut tree? The shell is covered compactly by a coat of fibre. You cannot
break the nut by hitting even with a crowbar. Take off the fibrous armour, then
breaking it is easy. When you take a coconut to be offered in the temple, you
remove the fibre, and then offer it to God by breaking it into two halves. This
is the symbol for destroying the ego and surrendering to the Lord. So also in
life, you must remove the fibre of desire for sense-objects and then, go before
the Lord devoid of desire and anger (kama and krodha); there you declare that
you are egoless by breaking the coconut into two. You are then accepted!
- Divine Discourse, Mar 29, 1965.
Destroy your ego, you have no need to seek liberation.
You will be liberation itself. - Baba

How should our devotion to the Lord be? Bhagawan
lovingly explains to us the various types of devotion and which one is most
ideal.
There are three types of devotion: The Vihanga
method, where like a bird swooping down upon the ripe fruit on the tree, the
devotee is too impatient and by the very impatience one exhibits, loses the
fruit, which falls from one’s hold. The Markata method is akin to a monkey
which grabs one fruit and then chooses another and tugs at that, giving way to
unsteadiness as it is unable to decide which fruit it wants. So too, the
devotee of this type hesitates and changes the goal much too often and thus loses
all chances of success. The third and ideal type is the Pipilika method, where
like the ant, which slowly but steadily proceeds towards the sweetness, the
devotee also moves directly, with undivided attention towards the Lord and wins
His Grace.

03 Apr 2016..............
What is the kind of devotion we must strive to
develop? Bhagawan gives us a wonderful example today.
The life of Prahlada is a testament of real
devotion to God. Though severely tortured by his father, Hiranyakashipu,
Prahlada stood firm as a rock, steadfast in his devotion to Vishnu. At a tender
age, Prahlada planted God firmly in his heart and withstood every storm and
stress. Physical afflictions had no effect on him and did not reduce his
devotion. The mind steeped in the Love of God is beyond any shock and strain
like the chloroformed patient who is oblivious of the incisions made by the
surgical instruments. Only Love of this kind can ultimately be victorious. But
today, the devotion of the people wavers with every trying circumstance. When
our wishes are fulfilled, we install many photographs for worship; and when our
wishes are not fulfilled, we throw out the photographs.
Pain is a part of life and must be accepted at any
cost. Pleasure is an interval between two pains.
