How should we
approach our sadhana and what results are we to anticipate? Bhagawan lovingly
explains to us today.
Devotees should
consider the body as the field and good deeds as seeds and cultivate the name
of the Lord, with the help of the heart as the farmer, in order to get the
harvest, the Lord Himself. How can one get the crop without cultivation? Like
cream in milk and fire in fuel, the Lord is in everything. Have full faith in
this. As the milk, so the cream; as the fuel, so the fire; so also, as the
spiritual discipline, so the direct experience (sakshatkara) of the Lord,
right? Even if the attainment of liberation (mukti) isn’t directly realised as
a consequence of taking up the Lord’s name, four fruits will clearly be evident
to everyone who sincerely does the sadhana: 1. Company of the good and godly 2.
Truth 3. Contentment and 4. Control of the senses. Through whichever of these
gates one enters, whether one is a householder, recluse, or a member of any
other class, one can reach the Lord without fail. This is certain.
- Prema Vahini,
Ch 60.
There is no
penance (tapas) higher than fortitude, no happiness greater than contentment,
no good deed (punya) holier than mercy, no weapon more effective than patience.

What is the best
way to propagate righteousness in society? Bhagawan lovingly gives us the best
recipe today.
Propagation of
dharma does not mean spreading knowledge about something that is not known. Its
basic purpose is to promote the practice of dharma. Only those who practice
dharma are qualified to propagate it. It is because dharma and satya
(righteousness and truth) have not been propagated by persons practising them
that they have been eclipsed, as it were, and are not perceivable. It is only when
they are practised in daily life that their true nature and value will be
realised. A person is judged by the nature of one’s actions. If one’s actions
are good, one is described as a good person. If his actions are bad, the person
is described as being wicked. One's qualities and actions are interdependent.
Actions reveal qualities and qualities determine actions. Hence everyone should
strive to reform oneself by developing good qualities.

Why should we
treat everyone we come across with respect and love? Bhagawan lovingly shares a
beautiful anecdote and explains.
The emperor of
the Cholas sought to visit the Srirangam Gopuram Temple, of which he had heard much.
He got his chariot ready and in the next six months tried to make this journey
many times. But on every occasion a recluse in ochre robes with a rosary around
his neck and a halo around his head intercepted the vehicle. When the emperor
alighted to honour him, he kept him engaged in conversation which was so
enchanting that he forgot his journey and its goal. One day, when he lamented
over his failure to fill his eyes with the glory of Srirangam, the Lord
appeared before him and said, "Why do you lament? I am the Master who came
to you so often as soon as you set out for Srirangam; recognise Me in all, that
is the genuine pilgrimage to Srirangam." Consider all whom you meet as the
Lord of Srirangam, your Master. Show untarnished love towards all who come to
you.

Why should we,
as devotees, be ever vigilant of our thoughts, words and deeds? Bhagawan
lovingly reminds us today.
Have you heard
the story of the rabbit that borrowed from Mother Earth four paise? She thought
that if she moved into a new place or country she would be free from the
obligation. So one day, she ran as fast as her legs could carry her and went
extremely far away from the place where she took the amount from Mother Earth.
Pleased with her endeavor herself, she sat down in great relief and said to
herself, “Now no one will ask me to repay!” To her utter dismay, right beneath
where she sat, from the ground underneath, she heard a voice, “Mother Earth is
right underneath your feet, right here. You cannot escape me, however far you
run!” So too, you cannot run away from Me. All I demand is good conduct, good
habits, good thoughts and good company, wherever you are. Use this precious
opportunity to strive earnestly, more than ever before, to reach your goal.

What is the
relevance of Mahabharatha, in our daily lives? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us
in crystal clear terms today the path to attain success.
The game of life
you play is akin to the Mahabharatha war. On one side were the forces of evil,
the Kauravas, and on the other the powers of good, the Pandavas. They played
the game of life with the empire as the football. Until achieving complete
victory, Lord Krishna was the sole chief for the righteous Pandavas, who
completely surrendered to Him. The wicked Kauravas lost their commanders one
after the other in the battle. The real contest today within you is the one
between the evil qualities of desire, hatred, envy, pride, etc. and good
qualities like truth, virtue, peace, nonviolence and love. Your body is the
battlefield. One team’s captain is the embodiment of good qualities. The
captain of the other is the embodiment of mundane desires. Those who adhere to
ever changing and worldly desires will attain defeat. Only those who attach
themselves to the unchanging and eternal Divine can hope for enduring success
in life.

What truly is
the relationship between us and the Divine we seek to merge in? Bhagawan, Our
Loving Master, clearly explains to us today.
The Divine is
the base, and also the superstructure. The beads are many, but the
interconnecting, integrating string of the rosary is one. So also for the
entire world of living beings; God, the permanent, omnipresent Parabrahman, is
the base. The scriptures proclaim, “He who realises Divine verily becomes
Divine (Brahmavid Brahmaiva Bhavathi)”. The bubble born of water floats in it
and bursts to become one with it. All the visible objective worlds are like
bubbles emanating from the vast ocean of Divinity, Brahman. They are on the
water and are sustained by water. How else can they arise and exist? Finally,
they merge and disappear in water itself. For their origination, subsistence,
and mergence, they depend only on water. Water is the basis; bubbles are
delusive forms of the same imposed on it.

Ch 2.

alike to everyone. - Baba
