What is the real characteristic of true devotion?
Bhagawan endearingly guides us today.
Devotion is not wearing an ochre cloth or
organising festivals or performing ritual sacrifices or shaving the hair or
carrying water pot or rod or matting the hair, etc. The Lord will never judge
you at any time on the basis of the religion or caste you belong or the
precepts you traditionally follow. The real characteristics of true devotion
are: (1) Having a pure mind (anthah-karana) (2) Uninterrupted contemplation on
God, whatever be your profession in daily living (3) The feeling that
everything is the Lord’s creation and therefore One (4) Acceptance of all with
equal love (5) Non-attachment to sense objects, and (6) Practicing true speech.
Whoever you are, in whatever condition you may be, if you do not give room for
dispiritedness, if you have no fear at all, and if you remember the Lord with
unshaken faith and without any ulterior motive, all your suffering and sorrow
will surely fall away!
- Prema Vahini, Ch 61.
Moderate food, moderate sleep, love (prema), and
fortitude will help in the upkeep of the health of both body and mind. - Baba

Why should we consider virtues and a good name as
more valuable than all other possessions in life? Bhagawan explains with a
profound little story.
Long ago, there was a person who had three friends.
Quite by accident, he was charged for some crime and a warrant was issued
against him by the court. He approached one friend and asked him to bear
witness to his innocence. He said, "I will not move out of this house; I
can help you only from within this." The second friend said, "I can
come only upto the porch of the court. I will not enter the witness box."
The third friend said, "Come, I shall speak for you wherever you want me
to." The first friend is the 'property and possessions' which can bear
witness only from within the house. The second is 'the kinsmen and the members
of the family’, who come as far as the cemetery but would not accompany the
person to the seat of judgement. The third friend is the fair name earned by
one's virtues and service. These persist even after death and burial; they
stand witness for ages, and announce the innocence and greatness of the
individual. They decide the nature of the next birth too.

Why is it necessary to inculcate some form of
Sadhana in our life? What should those spiritual practices help us achieve?
Bhagawan reminds us today.
Each and every one of you has a great deal of
concentration. You know the art, for every task requires it and everyone
benefits from good concentration. The carpenter, the weaver, the clerk, the
boatman - all have it in a greater or lesser degree. Use that power of
concentration for the task of directing the mind, towards its own goodness.
Examine its working and train it to restrict itself to good company, good
thoughts and good deeds. Practice meditation on any form of the Lord and repeat
any name of the Lord with the awareness of its sweetness. That will teach your
mind to be sharp and produce good music out of the joys as well as the griefs
that are incidental to life. If the arena of life is entered just for getting sensory
joy, you are in for all kinds of trouble. It is like sailing in a tiny boat on
a storm-tossed sea without a rudder. So enter upon the path of spiritual
discipline now itself.
- Divine Discourse, Dec 20, 1958.
You must subject yourself to the hammer of
discipline and the chisel of pain-pleasure, so that you become Divine. - Baba

Why should we persist with our efforts on the path
and how will we find inspiration? Bhagawan, Our Loving Master, clearly explains
to us today.
Just as there is butter in milk, fragrance in
flower, tasty juice in the fruit, and fire in wood, there is Divinity in the
vast universe. – Baba ..
பாலுக்குள்
வெண்ணை, பூவுக்குள் வாசம், பழத்துக்குள்
இனிய ரசம், மரத்துக்குள் நெருப்பு மறைந்துள்ளது போல்;
Today people are too immersed in the all-pervasive
delusion to take advantage of the natural characteristics in the Universe and
elevate themselves. They are unable to hold on to the good and avoid the bad,
and establish themselves on the righteous (dharmic) path. They are ignorant of
the path of peace and harmony in the world. The scriptures clearly teach: From
which you are born, by which you live, into which you dissolve —‘That’ is
Brahman. God is ‘That’ from which the manifested cosmos emanated with its
moving and unmoving entities; ‘That’ prompts, promotes and fosters your
progress. The cosmos is not one continuous flux. It progresses persistently
toward achieving totality in its evolution. Everyone can transform themselves
from their present status only through their own self-effort and
discrimination. The moral forces permeating the cosmos will certainly promote
your achievement.
