Where is Kailasa? Kailasa is
your own joy and bliss. It signifies that Lord Shiva lives in the Kailasa of
delight. If you develop joy and delight in your mind, then Shiva lives in you.
How can you get this joy? It comes when you develop purity, steadiness and
sacredness. Then your heart becomes filled with peace and bliss and is indeed
Shiva’s Kailasa!
* நம்பிக்கை, பொறுமை

What is the path
of real surrender? Bhagawan lovingly explains to us today with a beautiful
example.
The path of
surrender is like that of a kitten (marjala kishora nyaya), that simply mews in
one place, placing all its burdens on the mother cat. Similarly, the devotee
places complete trust on God. The mother cat holds the kitten in its mouth and
transports it safely through even very narrow passages. When the devotee places
all burdens on the Lord, without fear or worry, and surrenders fully to His
will, He will certainly provide everything. Lakshmana is the witness of this
path. To serve Rama, Lakshmana renounced all obstacles in his path - wealth,
wife, mother, home and even sleep and food for fourteen full years. He felt
that Rama was his all, his happiness and joy, and would grant him everything
that he needed. His life’s purpose was only to follow Him, serve Him, and
surrender his will to Him. This is the characteristic of complete
self-surrender. This discipline of surrender (prapatti) is much superior to
that of devotion (bhakti).

What is the
attitude with which we must carry on all our duties - personal, professional or
philanthropic? Bhagawan lovingly reminds us today.
Be good, be
serviceable, be useful, be kind, be God-fearing — then the confidence of the
people will be yours. Faith is the very breath of victory — faith in oneself,
faith in the good work one has set upon, and faith in its success despite signs
of failure. Attachment and hatred are the greatest enemies of progress in any
work. If someone is deluded into believing that they are saving others, then
woe be to them, for there is no ‘other’ at all! The fundamental flaw here is
ignorance! If only you are wise, you will know that all individuals are waves
on the surface of the self-same ocean. All are One, injury to the hand is pain
to the whole body. Hence, selfless action is the ideal to be practised! Perform
all actions without selfish desire (Nishkama Karma)! Desire for gain is like
the poison fangs; when they are pulled out, the snake of karma is rendered
harmless.

Who truly
deserves to be called a ‘Bharatiya’? Bhagawan lovingly explains and motivates
all of us today.
You derive
exaltation while worshipping a carved stone idol in the temple. How much more
exalted should you be while worshipping the self-same God residing in the
temple-hearts of the men and women amongst you! And not merely in the human
frames; God lives in every bird, beast, tree, pebble and speck of dust! Remember,
the grace of God cannot be won by merely repeating His glories! Recite the name
of your chosen Lord, with its halo of meaning clear in your mind and soaked
into your acts and feelings. The Americans who sang bhajans today paid
attention to the tune and its beat; they also learnt the meaning of each song
and sang it from their heart, respecting its spirit with bha-va (feelings),
ra-ga (tune) and tha-la (rhythm) - Bha-ra-tha - that entitles them to be called
Bharatiyas! The culture of ‘Bharat’ is built on rati (attachment) to Bhagawan;
so, any person, independent of their race, who is attached to the Lord is a
Bharatiya!

What is the
significance of Shivaratri that we must not forget? Bhagawan lovingly reminds
us today.
On Shivaratri
day you must try to establish friendship between your mind and God. Shivarathri
is to remind you that the same Divinity is all-pervasive and is found
everywhere. People believe Shiva lives in Kailasa.
Where is
Kailasa? Kailasa is your own joy and bliss. It signifies that Lord Shiva lives
in the Kailasa of delight. If you develop joy and delight in your mind, then
Shiva lives in you. How can you get this joy? It comes when you develop purity,
steadiness and sacredness. Then your heart becomes filled with peace and bliss
and is indeed Shiva’s Kailasa!
Shiva will live
in the sanctum sanctorum of your heart, within the temple which is your body.
There is no use in just thinking of Shivaratri once a year. Every minute, every
day, every night, you should think of Divinity and sanctify your time, for the
Time Principle truly speaking is Shiva.

What is
Bhagawan’s expectation of every spiritual aspirant or devotee? Bhagawan
lovingly explains to us today.
It is not the
nature of a spiritual aspirant to search for faults in others and hide their
own. If your faults are pointed out to you by someone, don’t argue and try to
prove that you were right, and don’t bear a grudge against them for it. Reason
out within yourself how it is a fault and set right your own behaviour.
Rationalising it for your own satisfaction or wreaking vengeance on the person
who pointed it out —these should not be the traits of a spiritual aspirant or
devotee. The spiritual aspirant must always seek the truthful and joyful, and
must avoid all thoughts of the untrue, sad and depressing. Depression, doubt,
conceit — these are as detrimental as Rahu and Kethu (evil planetary
influences) to the spiritual aspirant. They will harm one’s spiritual practice.
When your devotion is well established, these can be easily discarded if they
appear. Above all, you must be joyful, smiling, and enthusiastic under all
circumstances.
