What does the Lord seek
in us? Bhagawan explains so we may equip ourselves with the means to draw Him
to ourselves.
If you wear blue
eyeglasses, you see only blue, even though nature is resplendent with many
colours, right? If the world appears to you as with differences, that is due
only to the fault in you. If all appears as one love, that too is only your
love. For both of these, the feeling in you is the cause. It is only because
you have faults within you that you see the world as faulty. When there is no
knowledge of fault in yourself, no fault can be found even by search, for you
wouldn’t know which are the faults. Now, the question may arise whether the
Lord Himself has faults because He also searches for faults. But how can it be said
that the Lord searches for faults? He searches only for goodness, not for
faults and sins. The Lord won’t examine the wealth, family, caste, status, or
sex. He sees only the righteousness (sadbhava). He considers those endowed with
such righteousness as deserving His grace, whoever they are, whatever they are.

What is the secret
recipe to maintain good physical and mental health throughout life? Bhagawan
lovingly gives us some simple and direct tips.
Virtuous conduct also
ensures mental peace, and that in turn saves you from many a physical and
mental illness. If you overstep the bounds (mithi), you will not progress
(gathi). Coming to the topic of physical illness, I must tell you that you must
practice moderation in food, drink, sleep and exercise. Good food taken in
moderate quantities, at regular intervals — that is the prescription. Pure,
wholesome (satwic) food promotes self-control and intelligence more than
passion-producing (rajasic) and impure (tamasic) food. For spiritual aspirants,
pure and wholesome food is very necessary. Subtle invisible thought-forms can
pass from one person to another through food. Hence you must be very careful
about food, especially where you are proceeding Godward, through the steep path
of yoga. Sleep too should be regulated and moderate; it is as important as work
and food. Remember also that dress is primarily for protection against heat and
cold, not for vain display even at the cost of health.

Even the thought that
you have not benefited from the puja or japam (prayers and contemplation) you
do should not pollute your faith. To adhere to spiritual practises is your
duty, your innermost urge, and your genuine activity. Leave the rest to the
will of God. This must be your resolve on holy Shivaratri.

moderate and wise. Be vigilant and steady. Be earnest and sweet. - Baba

What is the significance
of Holy Shivarathri? Bhagawan lovingly gives us a precious pearl of wisdom so
that we may use this opportunity.
The nature of man is a
mixture of progressive and regressive characteristics. One must take note of
this and foster the former, to the exclusion of the latter. The will to
renounce, to share, and to give up, is a precious virtue. Curiosity, the
longing to know, is another quality which must be used to know the Reality
which appears as many and momentary. This knowledge can be attained only when
the consciousness is purified by the grace of God. Holy days like Shivaratri
are marked only to impress upon your mind your duty to impose a 'fast' on your
senses and a 'vigil' on your intelligence, and to keep away from polluting
impulses and inclinations.
Even the thought that
you have not benefited from the puja or japam (prayers and contemplation) you
do should not pollute your faith. To adhere to spiritual practises is your
duty, your innermost urge, and your genuine activity. Leave the rest to the
will of God. This must be your resolve on holy Shivaratri.

What is the important
lesson we must learn to make our life enjoyable and peaceful? Bhagawan
endearingly asks to introspect what we do and reminds us what the results would
be.
In ancient times, the
sages and saints sacrificed everything for the sake of the welfare of humanity.
Even the youth of those times followed suit. They are remembered even today
because of their spirit of selfless sacrifice. On the contrary, the youth of
today are becoming exceedingly greedy and totally selfish and harbouring
feelings of hatred and jealousy. While those in the ancient times were leading
a life of Thyaga and Yoga (sacrifice and sense control) the present day youth
want to lead a life of bhoga (worldly enjoyments and pleasures), which will
only result in roga (diseases). So long as one goes on multiplying desires, one
will continue to be in want. When the desires are controlled, prosperity is
attained. Greed makes one unhappy and miserable. Only when greed and
miserliness are given up can one have an enjoyable and peaceful life.

Are we genuine seekers
of Divinity? Bhagawan lovingly explains God’s ardent quest for a genuine
seeker!
Many aspirants lack
moral commitment and seek God for the fulfilment of their petty desires and
transient benefits. No one seeks to understand the nature of true love or the
Divinity that underlies everything. What we witness today in the world, is a
great deal of play-acting. All appear as devotees and all proclaim their spirit
of sacrifice. Everyone declares himself or herself as a sadhaka (spiritual
aspirant). Every believer claims that they are connecting with God. Sincerely
enquire within, “Is the aspirant (Sadhaka) serving God or is God serving the
Sadhaka?” The service that the sadhaka is doing is trivial. Offering to God
what God has provided is like offering to the Ganga water from the Ganga. The
truth is it is God who is serving the devotee. All the capacities given by God
should be used in the service of the Divine. There is no need to go in quest of
God. God is all the time searching for the genuine and steadfast devotee.
