சிவராத்திரியன்று இரவு, 14 நாழிகைக்கு மேல் ஒரு நாழிகை, லிங்கத்தில் சிவன் தோன்றியருளினார் என்பதாலேயே, அன்று இரவெல்லாம் கண் விழித்திருந்து, சிவ பூஜை செய்வர்

* சிவராத்திரியன்று, ஒவ்வொரு ஜாமத்திலும், ஒவ்வொரு அலங்காரமும், விதவிதமான அபிஷேகங்களும் செய்யப்படுகின்றன

* முதல் ஜாமத்தில், பஞ்சகவ்ய அபிஷேகம், வில்வ அலங்காரம், தாமரை அர்ச்சனை, பால் சாதம் நிவேதனம், செம்பட்டு போர்த்தப்பட்டு, சிவ புராணம், ரிக் வேதத்தில் பாடப்படுகிறது; பச்சை கற்பூரம், சந்தன மணம் கமழ சாம்பிராணி, சந்தன கட்டை புகை போடப்பட்டு, தீபாராதனை நடைபெறும்

* இரண்டாவது ஜாமத்தில், பஞ்சாமிர்த அபிஷேகம், குருத்தை அலங்காரம், துளசி அர்ச்சனை, பாயசம், சர்க்கரை பொங்கல் நிவேதனம், மஞ்சள் பட்டு போர்த்தப்பட்டு, யஜுர் வேத கீர்த்தித் திருவகவல் பாடப்படுகிறது; அகில், சந்தனம், குங்குமம், சாம்பிராணி புகை போடப்படுகிறது

* மூன்றாவது ஜாமத்தில், தேன் அபிஷேகமும், மூன்று இதழ் வில்வமும், ஜாதி மலர் அர்ச்சனையும், எள் அன்னம் நிவேதனமும், வெண் பட்டு போர்த்தப்பட்டு, சாம வேத திருவண்ட பகுதி பாடப்படுகிறது; கஸ்துாரி சேர்ந்த சந்தன மணம், கருங்குங்கிலி புகை போடப்பட்டு, ஐந்து முக தீபாராதனை நடைபெறும்.

* நான்காவது ஜாமத்தில், கருப்பஞ்சாறு, வாசனை நீர் அபிஷேகமும், கருநொச்சி அலங்காரம், நந்தியாவட்டை அர்ச்சனையும், வெண் சாதம் நிவேதனமும், நீல பட்டு போர்த்தப்பட்டு, அதர்வண வேதம், போற்றித் திருவகவல் பாடப்படுகிறது; புனுகு சேர்ந்த சந்தன மணம் பரப்பப்பட்டு, கற்பூரம், லவங்க புகை போடப்பட்டு, மூன்று முக தீபாராதனை நடைபெறும்.

முறையாக விரதம் இருந்து, பூஜை செய்தால், சிவனருள் கிடைக்கும். எல்லா சுக நலன்களையும் அடையலாம் என்பது தெய்வீக நம்பிக்கை.

How should our devotion to the Lord flow? Bhagawan endearingly reminds us today, so we may never forget.           

Devotion must be continuous, uninterrupted, like the flow of oil from one vessel to another. Without love (prema), nothing in this world can be acquired. Only when there is love does attachment (anuraaga) in its turn produce the desire to protect and guard. In the young-of-the-monkey path of the surrender (markata kishora nyaya), the child has to rely on its own strength to protect itself — wherever the mother might jump about, the child has to attach itself fast to the mother’s belly and not release its hold, even if pulled apart! So too, the devotee must stand the test at the hands of the Lord and hold on to the Lord’s name at all times and under all conditions, tirelessly, without the slightest trace of dislike or disgust, bearing the ridicule and the criticism of the world and conquering the feelings of shame and defeat. The wonderful example of this type of devotion is that first among devotees, Prahlada.
